Urgoform’s comprehensive clinical evaluation ensures a detailed assessment of an individuals physical presentation, pressure care, postural and functional requirements. This detailed assessment ensures that the final seating solution is comfortable and provides the correct support that is essential to overall well-being and functional independence.

This tailored scripted seating approach has four key measurement points, each is critical and must be measure with precision and applied with consideration to the individuals body joint flexion and extension ranges.

Seat Depth for scripted wheelchair seating is one of four key measurement points.

Seat Depth

The most critical of all four measurements; this is measured to ensure the buttocks and thighs are adequately supported by the seating surface.

When a seat is too deep/long it will cause it to press against the back of the knees and may restrict blood flow that can lead to discomfort and in some cases pressure injury. It will also lead to posterior tilt and prevent a persons back from having correct contact with the backrest.

A seat depth too shallow result in inadequate thigh support, promoting increased pressure on the buttocks and poor weight distribution.

A healthier and comfortable sitting posture with correct thigh support is promoted by correct seat depth.

Shoulder height is one of the four key measurements critical for correct clinical scripted seating.

Shoulder Height

Determining the ideal backrest position, shoulder height measurement makes sure the backrest and individuals shoulders are aligned correctly. This provides the crucial support to the thoracic spine and scapulae (shoulder blades).

With correct spinal alignment, the strain on the upper back and shoulder muscles is reduced and helps achieve a more comfortable and upright posture.

Hip width is a pivotal parts of scripted seating measurement for wheelchair seating.

Hip Width

Impacting the individual’s comfort and pressure distribution, hip measurement determines the internal sizing of the wheelchair seat.

A seat too narrow will cause discomfort and can lead to restricted circulation around the hips and thighs. When the seat is too wide, the can cause the individual to not be correctly positioned and sit mis-aligned in the wheelchair.

Accurate measurements of the hip width allows for a seat that comfortable cradles the pelvis and offers even weight distribution. This measurement also provides guidelines for the placement and design of any required lateral thigh supports.

Lower leg lenght measure in scripted seating measures the lower leg from back of the knees to the heal.

Lower Leg Length

Measuring the lower leg from the back of the knee to the heal, this allows for the correct placement and positioning of footrest. A correctly positioned footrest ensure feet are supported and the appropriate height and promoted optimal knee flexion.

A correct knee angle helps maintain a neutral pelvic angle and balanced spinal alignment. This contributes greatly to overall posture and reduces strain on the lower back and hips.
